holy ass. i rode home from boston again (11 miles) and tackled the killer hill in milton again. it turns out my memory exaggerated how bad it was — although it is a fairly long hill — but not how bad and out of shape i am. this time, though, i was able to slowly and painfully make my way up the hill without any breaks.
my physical therapist said that when most of her patients start running again, they’re not limited by their legs, but rather their cardiovascular fitness. so, i really want to keep tackling the hills in my neighborhood in order to be cardio-ready for running when my leg is healthy again. the ride home from boston is actually pretty hilly — there are a bunch of inclines, although nothing really tough except for the “killer hill” — so it’s kinda good to do it on sunday afternoons when there isn’t too much traffic. the hills that i encounter on my after-work rides are starting to feel less challenging, so i may have to find some harder hills closer to home to work on.
i interrupted my ride home with a stop at the 7-11 and had a slurpee. it was worth it. i think i’m going to make that my riding-home-from-boston habit, because sugar and ice after a hot ride is gooooooooood.
